Recently, a large open-pit mine project in Africa completed installation, commissioning and official operation of multiple MTU complete diesel generator sets. The equipment supplies main power for the mine crushing production line, mineral processing workshop and camp domestic electricity, addressing the problems of weak public grid and unstable local power supply.
Located in a remote area with no public grid coverage, the project adopts multiple MTU 2000 18V2000G26F series generator sets operating in parallel, with a single unit power of 900kVA. The whole power station uses containerized silent units, which are dust-resistant and high-temperature resistant, adapting to the harsh high-temperature and dusty working conditions in Africa. The units feature excellent load acceptance capacity to cope with drastic load fluctuations caused by the start and stop of mining equipment, ensuring uninterrupted continuous production. The system supports intelligent control of multi-unit parallel operation. It can automatically start or stop units according to on-site power load to optimize fuel consumption and cut long-term operating costs.
MTU generator sets boast long overhaul intervals and a mature spare parts supply chain. There is a well-established local maintenance service network in Africa to quickly respond to maintenance requests and minimize downtime losses. The units are compatible with HVO fuel to meet the low-carbon management requirements of the project and comply with local emission control standards. The general contractor stated that after continuous load testing, MTU units start quickly and run smoothly, fully meeting the strict power supply standards for 7×24-hour non-stop mining production.
At present, demand for off-grid power from African mining, infrastructure and communication base stations keeps rising, and foreign trade orders for high-power diesel generator sets see obvious growth. With outstanding reliability, MTU has become a preferred power brand for overseas mining sites, island power stations and remote construction sites. Industry analysis shows that in many emerging markets, public power grid infrastructure lags behind, so demand for off-grid self-contained power stations will remain strong in the long run. MTU’s full range of generator sets covers medium and high power ranges. Open-type, silent and containerized solutions can be flexibly configured to meet customized requirements of various overseas projects, continuously expanding the global self-provided power market.
