MTU Expands North American Generator Manufacturing Base, Doubles Series 4000 Capacity

MTU has completed construction of a new supporting production and logistics base for generator sets in North America with a total investment of 24 million US dollars. The facility focuses on boosting the assembly and delivery capacity of high-power MTU Series 4000 20V4000G63diesel generator sets, serving the emergency power market for North American data centres, mining operations and public infrastructure.

Project Highlights

Capacity Target

Upon commissioning of the new plant, the assembly capacity for Series 4000 complete generator sets will be doubled by the end of 2026, effectively easing the tight global lead time for high-power generator sets over recent years. More than one hundred new positions will be created for assembly, testing and logistics.

Market Focus

The base mainly handles complete assembly, factory testing and pre-packaged shipment of 60Hz MTU Series 4000 generator sets. Products are primarily supplied to critical backup power projects including North American supercomputing data centres, hospitals, airports and oil & gas mining sites. The units are compatible with sustainable HVO fuel and comply with North American EPA Tier 4 emission standards.

Supply Chain Benefits

The new site undertakes finished unit warehousing and pre‑assembly, freeing up engine test bays at existing factories. It optimises local parts circulation, shortens lead times for customers across North America and reduces reliance on ocean freight transportation.

Industry Background

Rising renewable energy installations in North America have increased pressure on grid stability, driving growing demand for high‑power backup power at critical facilities. Thanks to its long time between overhauls and excellent transient load acceptance, the MTU Series 4000 remains one of the mainstream models for premium backup power applications in the region.
