Rolls-Royce Power Systems and AVK signed a five-year framework agreement in April 2025 to secure production capacity for mtu Series 4000 16V4000G24Fdiesel emergency gensets for the booming data centre market in the UK and Ireland. By the time of signing, Rolls-Royce had delivered more than 600 mtu diesel generator sets to AVK, deployed as standby power for large European data centres.
Under the contract, AVK remains the exclusive system integrator for mtu emergency gensets across the UK and Ireland. The five-year capacity reservation helps ease global supply constraints of high-power diesel generators and guarantees lead times for large IDC projects. The selected mtu 4000 DS diesel gensets are fully approved for HVO renewable fuel without hardware modification, cutting CO₂ emissions by up to 90% to meet European green building and carbon neutrality requirements.
The mtu Series 4000 DS diesel gensets deliver strong block load acceptance and comply with NFPA 110. They start rapidly upon mains failure to protect AI computing facilities and financial data centres from power interruption.
Vittorio Pierangeli, Senior Vice President Power Generation at Rolls-Royce Power Systems, commented that European data centres keep expanding. Customers require not only high reliability but also low-carbon operation. This long-term partnership will jointly develop HVO-oriented maintenance solutions for standby power systems.
The gensets are supplied in containerised silent version or open skid version, equipped with mtu Smart Power remote monitoring system for real-time operation tracking, fault pre-warning and remote diagnostics to reduce on-site maintenance workload. At the signing ceremony, AVK received an award to mark delivery of the 600th mtu generator set.
